I am archiving this cache due to the fact that it's been disabled for over 4 years. I can appreciate that bear season comes around each year but since the cache has not been disabled during the periods that it wasn't bear season I can no longer let it sit disabled.

Geocache Description:

Find this geocache at Cape Merry Battery, part of Prince of Wales Fort National Historic Site. Parking is available.

While visiting the site, please try to stay on the trails as much as possible to prevent damaging this fragile landscape. Admission is free. Parks Canada bear monitors and Heritage Presenters are present at scheduled hours . From October 11- November 18th there will be staff at the site from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Call the Parks Canada office in Churchill at 204-675-8863 for more information. VENTURING TO CAPE MERRY BATTERY DURING UNMONITORED HOURS IS AT YOUR OWN RISK. DO NOT WALK TO CAPE MERRY, PLEASE DRIVE OR TAKE A CAB AS WALKING CAN BE DANGEROUS DUE TO POLAR BEAR ACTIVITY. BE AWARE THAT THIS IS POLAR BEAR COUNTRY.

Discover the history of the Prince of Wales Fort in this official Parks Canada geocache. Find in the cache a brochure including a fictitious first hand account from the Hudson’s Bay Company employees who lived at the Fort in 1782 when three French warships showed up unexpectedly. In accordance with Parks Canada guidelines, there are no trade items permitted in this geocache. Happy hunting!
