Geocache Description:

This simple multi cache will take you on a walk of just under two and a half miles visiting the impressive ramparts of the Iron Age hill fort at Old Sodbury.

The Footpaths may be muddy in places and it’s a bit of a scramble to reach the final cache location (it's steep and may be muddy and slippery after wet weather) so don’t wear your Sunday best!
Also livestock may be present in the fields so take care to control any canine companions.
The cache is a small clip lid container in a cammo bag. Along with the usual swaps there is a resident Keeper of the Cache geocoin. Feel free to note its number but please leave it in the cache for others to discover.
The Dog pub at Old Sodbury is a good place for food and drink and has a large garden with childrens play area and resident guinea pigs!
NOTE the cache is not within the hill fort itself to avoid any damage to this historic site.

The above co-ordinates are for the Church of St John the Baptist in Old Sodbury. You can park in the lane near the church. The cache may be found at

N 51°ab.cde’
W002°fg.hi3’

To start the walk follow the path through the churchyard to the site of the now missing topograph at

N 51°32.072’
W002°21.240’

You can still enjoy the lovely view but now there's nothing to tell you what you are looking at!

As you follow the path through the churchyard look for the answers to the questions below to find the cache co-ordinates. There is no need to leave the path, the answers are clearly visible from it.

1. Annie Louise Bennet Died February b8th 194c
2. I will bless the Lord at all times psalm a4:g
3. Charles Lomax died at Bath 17th March 18h7
his widow Margaret died 13th July 18d1 aged 7f
4. e=a+b+c

To find the final figure you must walk to Virtual cache 2 at
N 51°32.593
W002°20.967

To reach this location head straight downhill (don't worry if at this stage your GPSr is pointing the other way!) to a hedge then turn right and follow the footpath with the hedge on your left passing around the right hand side of a small pond to a metal kissing gate.
Pass through the gate and over a small bridge over a ditch. Continue straight ahead with a hedge now on your right crossing three more field boundaries until you reach a wooden kissing gate in the corner of the field and join a road.

Head uphill to the virtual cache.

You are looking for the eighth letter of the alphabet. There are three numbers associated with it
i5/9

You now have the completed cache co-ordinates.

To reach the cache pass through a wooden gate with a Cotswold Way sign and head uphill through apple trees to join a newly surfaced footpath. Follow this left hand path uphill keeping on the Cotswold Way until you reach a kissing gate at
N 51°32.691’
W002°20.824’

Go through the gate and into Sodbury Fort. Follow the path straight across the middle of the fort to reach another kissing gate. Pass through the gate and ignoring the stile head downhill and to the right following the Cotswold Way. At the bottom of the hill turn left through a third kissing gate and head across the field keeping to the top edge. You can see Sodbury Church in the distance.
Pass through yet another kissing gate, the cache is now close by.
After finding the cache continue in the direction you were following downhill and back to the church.

UPDATE JAN 2011
There are now several more caches in the area. Both Church Small Old Sodbury GC2EYHG and Isobel and Sophie's Birthday Cache GC231CB are on the route of this walk.
There is also now a Sodbury Slog Extension GC2KX55 so for a walk of about three miles you should be able to collect four caches.

UPDATE MAY 2014
New puzzle added at the church yard following the theft of the topograph which made up the original puzzle. Make sure you are using the up to date cache page!
