Geocache Description:

This cache isn't so much about the location itself. You will have to find it to know its significance.

*** Update 30JUN09:
In preparation for a trip to California for my 25th high school class reunion, I was looking for some fun/unique caches in the area. I found a book mark of historical caches and I like history sooo I say "sure". I also happend to look a the name of the owner. "Mr7teen" Yes! It is none other than my math teacher that introduced me to the amazing properties of the number 17! He and I are gonna bag some caches while I am out there Maybe I'll have a few new 17 stories to share when I get back...
***

I have been asked by some about my geo-name and some could make the assumption that I like Batman (who doesn't though?) Maybe Batmans 1 through 16 already exist (I don't know). However, the number seventeen has a strange property as I'll explain. Read on...

This cache is an homage to my favorite math teacher, Mr. Crilly. His classroom was like many others - it had the usual stuff but with one big difference: seventeen. I should say “seventeens everywhere”. On the first day of class he explained to his new pupils that the number seventeen was the most often occurring of all the numbers.

We were incredulous of course. But as he enumerated examples it became clear that he was on to something. Some I remember are: "if I told you once, I told you seventeen times"; Seventeen is the only magazine named after a number; and, at that time, Reader's Digest was published in, yes, seventeen languages.

Once we saw the merit to this postulate, we began to see examples of it ourselves. We would tell others of the amazing places the number seventeen would pop up. They were skeptical until they began to notice this unique phenomenon too.

My dad (the biggest skeptic of all) had to see it for himself (and no, he's not from Missouri). His epiphany occurred as he parked his motorcycle at work like he had for years. He noticed that there were 16 motorcycle spaces all in a row but the seventeenth was around the corner all by itself!

When the low fuel light comes on in my vehicle, it takes 17 gallons to fill it up. The other day at work, I was designing a new work table to be 16" x 20" but the the operators that will be using it wanted it to be one inch wider- it is now 17" x 20"

The average person has has 150 germs on their hands at any given time but only 17 % of bacteria types were shared between right and left palms!

Is this coincidence? I think not.

Now that you know about the amazing number seventeen, find this cache and when you log your find, share *your* seventeen story.

Best regards,
Batman17

A BIG congrats to Mooch & Molly for their Co-FTF! And thank you for your "17" stories too.
