The Tongue is a small hillock towards the top of Troutbeck. It sits below Threshthwaite Mouth and the higher hills cradle it. The old Roman road of High Street runs down the east side. This series of caches will lead you from the Troutbeck/Ings road (Moorhowe Rd) via excellent tracks and then along the low ridge of The Tongue itself. Great cycle or walking route, about 14km with gentle gradients. The series makes for a great journey but can also be done in other ways.
This cache is near the southern end of Longmire Road, which soon becomes a rough track. There is nowhere to park along it, so park on the minor road at the waypoint shown. As you progress along this first part of the lane you get excellent views over the top end of Windermere, plus the Coniston and Langdale fells.
