Geocache Description:

I normally dislike micro's in the bush because of geo-damage which tends to occur. However, this micro is in the route of the North West Transport Corridor and the bushland is due to be destroyed in the future.

This remnant bushland currently forms part of the connection between Chermside Hills Reserve and Raven Street Reserve.

The North West Transport Corridor (visit link)
commences from Gympie Road in Carseldine and goes through Aspley, Chermside West and McDowall before it forks at Everton Park to connect with South Pine Road in Everton Park and Shand Street in Enoggera.

The origins of this corridor date back to the 1960s in the landmark Wilbur Smith and Associates Brisbane Transportation Study. The study recommended a North West freeway between the Brisbane CBD and Aspley via The Grange and Everton Park.

While the freeway concept was abandoned in the 1970s, this section of the original freeway corridor was kept for future use as an arterial road. The corridor was preserved in the early 1980s based on current planning standards for a four-lane median-divided road.

The role of the corridor has recently been identified in the Western Brisbane Transport Network Investigation which determined the long-term transport needs in the west and north west areas of Brisbane.

According to current Queensland Government information a new major arterial road will be constructed on the existing set-aside transport corridor linking to Gympie Rd at Aspley via Trouts Rd from the previously scrapped Route 20 within the next 15 years.
