Geocache Description:

Learn some LA history in Koreatown. Containers at both waypoints are velcroed.

This 2 part multi cache has you visit the former sites of the Ambassador Hotel and the Brown Derby. It is now being converted into a K-12 school. None of the original buildings survive. The only structure that still exists is the white column at the northwest corner of the property. They have refurbished it and it looks really nice. You can still see the "parking" and "hotel" signs where patrons would drive into the long driveway in front of the hotel. The school does look a lot like the old hotel building. The front of the school has a nice public park area with some quotes from and about RFK. There is also some trees and benches nearby, and if you continue all the way down to the northwest corner of the property there is a silver box that starts via motion detector playing a history of the hotel.

You can also see the former site of the Brown Derby restaurant across the street. Despite efforts to save the historic restaurant, the building was torn down. The "hat" was saved and sits atop the current structure.

I used to work in one of the buildings nearby and it was fun to watch this area go from decrepit old hotel to shiny new school. I didn't think it would ever get done.
