The cache is near the intersection of the Orchard and West Ridge trails in Redwood Regional Park (in the hills above Oakland, CA), which arguably has some of the loveliest hiking trails in the SF Bay Area.
In checking for some hiking trails in the area, I found that the southeastern part of the Redwood Region Park has virtually no geocaches. According to another area geocacher, there were some here once, but one by one they disappeared. So I decided to rectify this problem by placing a few myself: GC1FRVY, GC1FRVZ, GC1FRW0, GC1FRW1, GC1FRW3.
The cache site can be reached from the Redwood Gate trailhead, either by the West Ridge Trail, or by the Bridle Trail. Either way, you can make a nice loop hike by visiting this spot, then hiking Northwest along the West Ridge Trail to the Chown Trail, then north to the French Trail, and then back to the Bridle trail. It's a very lovely hike, through some magnificent redwoods groves. Plus, there are several new geocaches...
