A cache placed to be accessible from the centre of Chapel on foot. From this area you can see the industrial part of Chapel; the works, the freight railway and the old Chapel-en-le-Frith central station (closed to passengers in 1967).
This cache can be approached from 3 directions. There is a public footpath past the churchyard, a footpath across the fields from “The Courses” and a track from the South. A map is advised! There can be a few muggles around here every now and again walking their dogs or going to the nearby allotments so keep a look out.
You can visit this cache as a one off – it’s only a short walk from the centre of Chapel – or you can walk over towards the Peak Forest Tramway, Castle Naze or Eccles Pike where there are more geocaches. Free parking is available on the market place or behind the co-op. I don't advise taking your car down this track - it will probably get stuck and there is nowhere to turn round!
The cache itself is a small cylinder and can fit small travelbugs, geocoins, swaps etc (but not many! The smaller the better!). It contains log paper, 2 pencils and a sharpener which aren’t swaps.
When walking along the path from the church, rather than going over the stile towards “The Courses”, keep going along the track. When the line of grass down the middle of the track disappears, there is a large maple tree on your right. Near the base of this tree is the cache’s hiding place. There are several stones lying around but there is one obvious small structure. It seems quite old and was probably to stop an long eroded embankment from covering the track.
IMPORTANT: The cache is on the floor among stones which have been piled up to look slightly like the top section of a wall (i.e. a low wall)- but it is not actually a wall. Do not look in any walls!
Please rehide as you found it.
