Geocache Description:

This is a simple cache to take you to an area where you might enjoy the view. You will see the New Martinsville area just south of the Ohio River bridge.

My dad was a very special man who died 16 years ago this week at the age of 80. I think of him any time I'm at this location. I came here today to find "Ridin' the Ridges" cache and placed a cache here for Dad.

I grew up in New Martinsville at the south end of the four-lane in the apartment building at the east corner of the traffic light intersection. The field to the north owned by the state for the Ohio River bridge approach was the perfect place to fly a kite.
Dad found patterns for kites off the Scotch Tape package and he made kites out of black plastic and dowel rods. One in particular was flat with a hole in the center.... and boy, DID IT FLY! People would stop by the highway and get out of their cars to watch me fly the kite so high that people couldn't find it in the sky. Dad would watch from afar and beam with pride. I would have 400 feet of string out and the sting would break and it would go over the hill and out of sight. He built a dozen or so for me in the late '60's.

If you see some kite remains at the cache site.... it just may be one of Dad's lost kites!

Very quick FTF congratulations go to Tajkler. Way to go!
