Geocache Description:

Collins Lake, the fourth largest lake in Alban township, Portage County, covers 42 acres and has a maximum depth of 30 feet. It is spring fed. It is the site of Collins Park, named for William F. Collins, a prominent Portage County politician of the late 19th and early 20th century. Collins was born in Stevens Point in 1869, received a law degree from the University of Wisconsin, served on the Stevens Point school board from 1896-1898, and was elected to the state assembly.

Collins Park was established on Fish Lake, which was called Fish Lake as early as the 1870's. Over the years people forgot its original name and it came to be known as Collins Lake. In 1958 the County Board officially renamed it.

Collins Park is only 21 acres but it includes 21 campsites, a white-pine shaded picnic area, lodge, playground, boat launch and sandy beach. Bring a picnic and your swimsuit or canoe and enjoy this little known gem.

***The cache is NOT hidden under the SALAMANDER HOUSES, the boards that are lying flat on the ground nearby. Yes, they really are there for the salamanders****
