Geocache Description:

A micro cache beside a byway at the south western edge of Norridge Wood.

Norridge Farm and its 445 acres of fields and woodland were sold in 1947 at a Longleat sale. The sitting tenant at the time A.J.Corp paid a massive £24.000. Much of this land today is still farmed, the main group of farm buildings being very extensive. A byway crosses to the west of the area from Bugley Barton Farm near Warminster, to Chapmanslade via Cley Hill Farm. Another runs alongside the farm buildings just off the A36, across the south side of the common, past Clear Wood, to join the byway network on top of the hill north east of Corsley village. With the exception of these byways and one or two minor paths, most of the land is private and fenced.
Norridge Wood itself now hosts the pursuit of war games in the form of a “paintball” venue with extensive possibilities for tactical movement. Fear not though, the cache location will not lead you into an ambush!
Parking for this cache is at N51º 12.119 W002º 12.813, from where the byway can be followed to within 6ft of the cache location. The track is on good hard ground most of the way with only one short narrow path section where mud may be encountered, this being where it enters the extreme edge of the wood. The way forward along this final 500ft to the cache location is rather narrow and uneven and therefore not suitable for buggies or wheelchairs.
There are no stiles to negotiate. The cache is a micro near a byway gate leading to Cley Hill Farm. It should take about an hour to complete, allowing for an easy pace to view the hills, together with a little time to find the container.
