In 1962 the
Natal Provincial Administration created a statutory body, known as
the Natal Anti-Shark Measures Board, now called the Natal Sharks
Board (NSB). It was "charged with the duty of approving,
controlling and initiating measures for safeguarding bathers
against shark attacks"
Today the Natal Sharks board is responsible for the laying and
maintenance of shark nets in KwaZulu Natal.
The Natal Sharks Board Complex is the head office of the NSB as
well as a visitors centre. The visitors centre has a display
hall(FREE access-all you need to complete the clues), as well as an
audio visual hall and an auditorium for shark dissection which can
be viewed for a small fee at set times. See website:
www.shark.co.za for more information about the NSB, as well as show
times and prices.
The NSB opening times are Mon-Fri 8am-4pm, Sunday 1-4pm.
