In former times rivers and brooks were used to float timber from the forests into the cities. Few brooks have enough water for this purpose, so dams (forming artificial reservoirs) had to be built. The timber was piled up in the river bed. When the waterstorages were drainded the timber was flushed downstream. The german word for such a dam-construction is „Klause“ (same origin as close).
In the area of Klausen-Leopoldsdorf remnants of a widespread system of these drains can be found. 13 minor and 1 major drain worked together, floating timber as far as Baden. The system was in use until 1939.
The Schöpflbachklause houses a small museum about the drains, there you can see a film that was shot during one of the last times it was in use. It shows how the drains worked: The wood was piled up below the drains in a very intelligent way, so the timbers did not fall into the water all at the same time. When a drain was opened the water carried away the pieces of timber. This kind of work could only be down during springtime, when there was more water.

Grödlbachklause: in the middle of a meadow, only a few walls are left, so I didn't place a cache there
Agsbachklause: destroyed, the few remains are not worth seeing. Apart from that people walking there attract the attention of a mad dog and the inhabitants of the nearby house.
Kleinkrottenbachklause: Only a green dam is left (like the one at Großkrottenbach). This dam is situated in a meadow without a path, so I didn't place a cache there.
All the drains have one thing in common: All timber was floated towards the Schwechat-River. So that is where the Bonus will be.
