Geocache Description:

Snake Hill WMA is one of favorite caching spots. It's wild and rugged. I've had many adventures and misadventures there. I've finally added a cache of my own.

On one of my ill advised bushwacking trips in Snake Hill WMA as a newbie two years ago, a came across some really cool rock formations. I waymarked the spot intending to put a cache there. Then the logging started and the place was a mess. Two years later, I won an ammo can filled with rocks by throwing it the farthest at the MAGPI event at Cooper’s Rock. I’ve been trying to decide where to hide the slightly used (abused) ammo can. I needed to come up with something that had to do with rocks and air. I thought of the spot in Snake Hill. I headed up to look it over again. The WMA has recovered from the logging and I seemed to find new roads and not find the old trails. It’s not so much of a bushwack anymore since one of the new roads goes by the area. Typical of Snake Hill, you just have to find the right one. The rocks are a bit of surprise since the woods appear normal until you get real close. They are hidden by a thick ring of rhododendron. There are hundreds of evil places to hide a cache in there. I didn’t make this one hard to find. It may be a little hard for some to get to though. I don’t want to increase the chance of anyone getting snake bit so you won’t have to crawl in any holes or move any rocks to find the cache. You will have to do some rock climbing. It’s nothing serious and you won’t need any equipment. There is a chance you could get hurt so I recommend not doing it alone or taking children. Be careful. This is not near the canyon rim and there are no really big drop offs though there are cliffs in the area. As a tribute to it’s past, the MAGPI Flying Ammo Can is filled with rocks again. This time they are prettier. There are a couple large geodes, some polished stones, fool’s gold, and some petrified wood. There are also some other goodies plus a FTF prize. Have fun and I hope you enjoy Snake Hill as much as I have.
