Geocache Description:

This is a simple but complicated to access mega-bison along scenic eastern Turnagain Arm.
Bring your camera!

Thanks to recent clear-cutting along the water-side of the Seward Highway, this knoll has been denuded. The ammocan was destroyed by the hydro-ax equipment. Its replacement is a mega-bison nested next to the stump on the second-highest point of the knoll. Help keep it well-hidden when you replace it.

The cache is named after nearby adjusted benchmark UW7255 NOTCH 2 1964. It’s a challenge to get to the mark over the first dropoff down onto the slick rocks below – exercise caution. Remember, it’s considered ‘good form’ to include a closeup photo of the mark in your online benchmark log (see Northwes’ first log of this benchmark for an example of the full-documentation version of a benchmark find, done to assist others in finding the station). The mark’s coordinates can be used to check the accuracy of your GPS – as an ‘adjusted’ mark the coordinates have been set to very precise standards (versus a ‘scaled’ mark, where the coordinates are roughly estimated off a topo map).

Parking is a major challenge in accessing this cache –
DO NOT PARK ANYWHERE ON THE HIGHWAY WHERE THERE’S GUARDRAIL! Closest available parking is at least a tenth of a mile away, despite the cache’s proximity to the highway. Keep children and dogs under close supervision – the bluff here is about a twenty-foot drop to the rocks below, and the cache is very close to the bluff’s edge. When you walk to the cache, walk on the outside of the guardrail to avoid traffic on this blind curve.
PLEASE – DO NOT PARK ON THE CURVE WHERE THERE’S GUARDRAIL!!! Bring a small CITO bag and help keep this lovely outcropping free of trash.
