Although each cache is unique and hopefully challenging, they are all located within 10M of tarmac road so are easily accessible if you interpret the clues right. The obvious may not be so, but are plenty of clues to be found to help you locate the caches. There should be no need to climb over fences or fight through dense forests! As the route is on single track and often very narrow country roads, with the possibility of meeting farm vehicles, livestock and walkers, you should drive appropriately. Of course you could always leave your car in favour of 2 wheels or 2 feet! Red Kites were re-introduced to the area in 1996 and are now breeding wild. They are perhaps our most colourful and acrobatic bird of prey. They are chestnut brown with black wingtips and a distinctive forked tail. They have a wingspan of just over 5 ft. The call is a high pitched whistle. They can be easily confused, though with the Buzzard.
Argaty Red Kites is central Scotland's only Red Kite feeding station and is situated at Lerrocks Farm.
It is the perfect place to see Red Kites against the backdrop of the Braes of Doune. There is a purpose built hide where you can observe these acrobatic birds but look out for buzzards, peregrines, hen harriers and kestrels too. Food is put out for the kites each day throughout the year. As many as thirty Red Kites are attracted to the food depending on the weather and the season. There is a charge to use the facilities and have a guided tour. Out of season there is an honesty box. There is a large carpark and picnic tables. Lerrocks. The co-ordinates are for the car-park at Argaty Red Kites, Lerrocks Farm. Please use this car park and do not drive any further up the road.
The co-ordinates N56 12 677 W 004 02 551 will take you to an obvious structure over water. The cache is within 10m of this. Try N minus 004 + W minus 003 for more accuracy.
