This is a 3 stage multi that will require some basic math skills and reading, but it can all be done in the field. This is a great cache for both kids and newcomers to geocaching wanting to take a crack at their first Multi. I have set the difficult to 2 because there is a short drive involved (though there are plenty of other caches along the way).
Stage 1:
At the listed coordinates you will find a monument with a plaque detailing the history of a secretive fraternal organization's roots in Texas. Many of our nation’s founding fathers were members. Make note of the symbol at the top of the plaque. Take the time to read the entire story as it weaves its way through some important Texas history.
To find the coordinates for stage two, find the year W. M. Anson Jones left office (A) as well as the year the first formal meeting in Texas was held (B). Subtract A from the following to get the coordinates... 57.551 -x.xxx -------- N 32° ??.??? Add B to the following to get the coordinates... 42.817 +x.xxx -------- W 96° ??.???
Stage 2:
It is a short walk or drive to this stage. There are no muggles here, only mourners. Please be mindful of that. Look for the symbol on a vertical iron lattice. Once found, look around until you notice two other identical symbols. Take note of the DOB (C) with the initials RET, as well as the DOD (D) with the initials HD. Add C to the following to get the coordinates… 55.218 +x.xxx -------- N 32° ??.??? Subtract D from the following to get the coordinates… 46.241 -x.xxx -------- W 96° ??.???
Stage 3:
The final stage is a short 2 mile drive away. You will know when you have arrived. Look for the cornerstone and please BE GENTLE with the foliage. Watch our for muggles! Cache is large enough for a log and very small items. (BYOP).
