Purton New Pond is placed near to a small pond that appeared only a few years ago. A traditional Lock Lock Box to include toys a Geocoin and a TB.
The Pond was first included on the Land Ranger OS Map series in 2007 and was created to provide the spoil required for an embankment to allow access over the nearby Railway. It is a place of contrasts, the bridge with its urban graffitti clashes with the beauty of the pond, and then suddenly the idylic sounds of the birds and the breeze in the bullrushes can be broken by the hoot of a train just before it thunders past! I have placed the Cache away from the Pond due to the proximty to a Railway and beacause the area around the Pond is more often than not quite wet. I always wear Wellies for this walk and advise that or Walking boots at least.
The Cache is placed on a footpath that crosses the Railway and leads on to cross some reclaimed land and eventualy comes out by a derelict Farm or an adjoing Bridalway. These footpaths although well marked are quite overgrown in places so long trousers are advised all year round. If you do intend to cross the Railway please take care as this is a mainline, there are stiles on both sides of the track but they are not oposite each other. The paths on the reclaimed area have been diverted from their original routes and I believe are only rarely walked as we have never seen another walker along here. The best view of the Pond is whilst stood on the metal stile nearby, you can see over the Bullrushes.
