Geocache Description:

This should be a very easy near that less famous MCG, the Manaia Cricket Ground.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) located in Yarra Park, Melbourne, Victoria. It is the tenth-largest stadium in the world, the largest in Australia, the largest stadium for playing cricket, and holds the world record for the highest light towers at any sporting venue.

Internationally, the MCG is remembered as the centrepiece stadium of both the 1956 Summer Olympics and the 2006 Commonwealth Games. The open-air stadium is also one of the world's most famous cricket venues, with the well-attended Boxing Day Test match commencing on Boxing Day (26 December) each year.

The MCG, often referred to by locals as "The G" is much more famous than its distant Taranaki cousin. This smaller ground is also referred to as the MCG, with loving affection and more than a hint of country-style self-deprivation. My brother TreMichLan represented Taranaki whilst still a schoolboy so it was only logical to place a cache here. Then the Manaia team played Premier cricket and there was no artificial pitch in the middle of the wicket block. At that time, four members of the local side were Taranaki representatives, with others representing Central Districts at age group level.
