Smith-Frazier Cemetery Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Machera: Archiving. Checked on it today. Container was gone and log was blowing around on the ground. The area has changed a LOT since I originally placed this one. Don't think it's viable anymore. Bye.

Geocache Description:

Hidden in the Smith-Frazier Cemetery in Azle. Please respect the graves and markers. The cache is not hidden around or under any of the stones.

I stumbled across this tiny, old cemetery a few months ago. I had no idea it was here. The historical marker at the entrance reads:

Smith-Frazier Cemetery
Fort Worth businessman and philanthropist J.J. Jarvis bought land here in 1871 and built a home on the property in the early 1880s. A benefactor to the area’s black institutions, he deeded this site to Charles Young and Allen Prince in 1886 as a burial ground for Azle’s black community. Several graves were already located here when the land was conveyed. The site was later inherited by descendants of the pioneer Smith and Frazier families. Still in use, the Smith-Frazier Cemetery serves as a reminder of the area’s early settlers. (1983)

Many of the older markers are no longer readable. The oldest one I saw was for Ross Frazier, dated Aug. 21, 1911. If you find one with an earlier date, feel free to note it in your log.
