Fork Ashes (Mountain Type) No4 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Southerntrekker: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to recent logs I am archiving it.

The Geocache Maintenance guideline explains a CO's responsibility towards checking and maintaining the cache when problems are reported. Caches that have been archived for lack of maintenance will not be unarchived. This is explained in the Help Center.

Geocache Description:

This cache is one of a series taking you to some great scenery on the edge of the Berwyn mountains

I know of two types of Ash trees, there is the common Ash which is great at self seeding, and we have probably all been plagued at sometime by having these uninvited guests taking up space in our garden. Then there is the beautiful Rowan, or Mountain Ash, which provides our birds with food for the Winter. These I have picked out for this series of caches.

The former are prolific on the lower ground and valleys and can grow to fifty or sixty feet. Whereas the more beautiful Mountain Ash is much smaller and generally found on much higher ground where the common Ash would not survive. An interesting feature of the mountain Ash is the multitude of "trunks" that it sends up from the ground making the tree fork in many directions, The series is based on these forking Ashes. Taking us on a journey of spectacular views from high vantage points.

The cache is a circular plastic tumbler with a clip top, and covered with camo tape. It has the usual contents.

Parking with care please on the grass verge by the seat, as the road is quiet but quite narrow. Take a minute to read the fascinating history of the valley. Then head through the gate and up to the right, above the track, to get the best access to the cache.

Each cache contains information for the final cache which is therefore a multi-cache, don't forget to collect this info to complete the series.

The journey ends in one of the most picturesque villages in North Wales.
