Geocache Description:

This is a speedy P & G. Some stealth is required because a lot of muggles drive in and out.

Lots of kids (and adults) got their first Spanish lesson from the big screen and then later from the TV screen yelled by a plucky supra-energetic toon mouse as he raced to save his slower cousin Slowpoke Rodriquez. ANDALE!! ANDALE!! ARRIBA!! ARRIBA!! (Hurry up! Get up!) Speedy Gonzales, the fastest mouse in Mexico, survived Sylvester the Cat and controversy to remain one of Toonville’s top favorites. Speedy Gonzales appeared first in 1953 in a short “Cat-tales for Two.” In this cartoon, Speedy was meaner and more ratty-looking than his present persona. Robert McKimson and Fritz Freleng created the character. Mel Blanc provided Speedy’s voice. Two years later (1955), McKimson redesigned the little mouse, and paired him with Sylvester, the cat, in a toon named “Speedy Gonzales.” The film won the 1955 Academy Award for Best Short Subject Cartoon. With the success of that film, McKimson and Freleng teamed Speedy with Sylvester in a series of cartoons. Frequently, Speedy often called Sylvester, "El Greengo Pussygato."

When Speedy moved to television, his white costume and yellow sombrero and his thick Mexican dialect caused controversy with certain groups. The Cartoon Network pulled Speedy Gonzales from the line up until fans and The League of United Latin American Citizens intervened.
