Geocache Description:

This is the second of a series of three caches around the Foxdale area.
Note: the coordinates are for suggested parking only. Actual coordinates for the cache are found in ‘Old Flappy’(GC1G4HK) nearby. The coordinates for ‘Waterfall Halt’(GC1G4J4) can be found in the base of this cache.

An easy walk along a nice footpath.

Foxdale was a terminus station situated on a 2.5 mile branch line that ran up to St John’s. It was officially opened by the Foxdale Railway Company in August 1886 allowing rail access to the lead mining workings around the village of Foxdale. The last lead mine in the area closed in 1911 and from then on only spoil trains and the infrequent passenger and general goods services used the line. The last regular passenger train worked the branch in 1940, after which the service was replaced by buses. The line saw some troop specials during the second World War. The last train reported to have used the branch was an engineering working in 1960 which removed rails and other material from Foxdale to be used elsewhere on the system. The rails were finally removed during the mid 1970’s and much of the route is now a designated public walkway.

The cache is slightly larger than a 35mm container and contains a log sheet. Please bring a pen.
