This cache has been archived.

Greatland Reviewer: Hello:

This cache page has been archived due to the lack of response to one or more prior Reviewer Note(s) about issue(s) with the cache. If the owner would like to have the cache unarchived, please contact me through my profile as soon as possible before another cache gets placed nearby.

Please note that unarchiving a cache page requires it to go through the same review process as a newly proposed cache, using the cache placement guidelines currently in effect.

Geocache Description:

This is located on dry-land. There are a number of paths to this cache. The suggested parking & route is listed below. Half the joy is in the journey. Walk down the well tread trail to the ocean then scramble along the rocky coast line (GOOD SHOES are recommended.) Requires some rough boulder hopping near end, but well worth the effort. Or swim up from the nearby beach, or attempt the ill-advised climb from the overlook above. May be a small stream to tip-toe through in wet months.

Please retain the natural look of the cache location and the surrounding area. Please observe orig position of "lid" and vegetation and restore exactly as found for TOTAL concealment, so NOTHING is seen, and for the enjoyment of the next finder.

Finally a revival of the former Sunglass cache (GC3A1A)!

This is such a nice, and NOW more popular then ever beach, since the local scamsters have been legally prosecuted (no more paying admission.) This is an alternate site for many snorkel tours, so expect boats in the bay and save yourself the cost of the float-trip. Many turtles and other unusual wildlife have been spotted daily in this very smooth water harbor wildlife sanctuary.

This cache is NOT located on or easily accessible from the so-called "Stairs Beach" aka "Slaughterhouse Beach" aka "Mokule'ia Beach" which is located around a dangerous rocky point just to the South.

You might want to picnic or snorkel before or after you find the Cache. The beach is somewhat narrow and (very) rocky, but relatively clean and shady. Bring a beach chair if you will be on shore long. Entry into the water is a bit dicey due to slippery rocks just off shore, so take your time and avoid bruises, especially when wearing fins.

Honolua Bay is a Marine Sanctuary. This is an excellent dive/snorkel site. The reef is good on both sides of the bay. Spinner dolphins can often be seen playing on the surface just outside the bay. Manta rays and spotted eagle rays are occasionally seen. The recommended path offers the most available parking, and an extremely nice, level terrain, rainforest type stroll with a multitude of botanical species including cocoanuts and mangoes in season, native birds, and frequently even a native wild "red jungle fowl" or two.

The cache was abandoned by the former owner and archived due to some unfounded negative comments. The replacement container is a 1+ quart, square, blue top, tupperware-like container is still intact, very dry, and sound. If you find anything else, it is NOT the cache. The coordinates needed to be moved slightly from the original to protect the cache from muggles. We retained the former contents for posterity as well as add some additional swag.

I'm adding the following ONLY because I know someone is bound to try it on their own anyway and we don't want them breaking their necks. If you insist on heading to the cache from the nearby, high overlook proceed as follows. Again, this is NOT recommended! From the overlook parking, walk toward Lahaina on the right side of the road until you reach the first speed limit sign. Backup about 15 feet and search the edge of the road (EXACTLY midway between the sign and the end of the guard rail) for the fairly clear path down, down, down, slightly to the right. It will eventually lead directly into the ravine where the cache is.

The original description has been worked into this one.
