To honour the amazing achievement of one little old man with a shovel.
This cache takes you to Creswick’s favourite walking track. You won’t need to do the whole thing, just the first 600 metres of it (and back) but you might as well keep going since you’re there. It’s a great little 2km walk.
There is a car park with nearby picnic tables at GR
37° 25.161 S 143° 54.625 E.
The race in question was dug by an elderly chinese gentleman during the 1880’s. It is 25 kilometers long and was completed over 2 years. It drops just 3 cms in a kilometer and was built to supply the sluices in the surrounding area with the water which they required to operate. There is an information board nearby which gives you this and other information.
The cache is a 2 litre TMNT Systema lunch box with all the usual array of stuff in it. There is a fair bit of tree cover but it shouldn’t present much of a problem. The terrain is not terribly complex and there aren’t that many suitable hiding spots for a container of this size but, if you really need it, the hint should make it easier.
