The Pool Traditional Cache

The cache is located beside the Inver River above Glenariff.
When I first walked along this stretch of the Inver River and saw the pool I was struck by its beauty and charm. All around you have the wide, open landscape of the Antrim Plateau, whilst the river itself has eroded a series of waterfalls, pools and short rapids.
You can approach this cache from several directions. The easiest is probably to park your car near Dungonnell Dam
(N54deg.59.299; W006deg.08.274) and walk along the rough road to the Pump House (N55deg.00.274; W006deg.05.667)- provided the gates are open/unlocked you could also drive to this spot. You might also consider walking in from Glenariff Forest Park - there is a helpful stile near N55deg.00.211;
W006deg.06.473. Whatever way you go the final few hundred metres will probably be a bit boggy - so wear appropriate footwear.
Please take care when walking beside/crossing the river which can be quite a torrent at times. If you go via the stile mentioned at the edge of Glenariff Forest Park you do not have to cross the river. Remember also, that this is a mountainous area where weather conditions can change quickly.
Hopefully the weather will be kind to you. As you walk in keep an eye out for birds such as Hen Harrier and Buzzard; and wild flowers such as Bog Cotton and Tormentil. It is a lovely spot for a picnic - please do not leave any litter.
The cache, which contains only a log sheet and pencil (good idea to bring your own pencil) is hidden a few metres from a Rowan tree about 50 paces downstream from the pool.
