Navio-Museu Santo André
O navio-museu Santo André é um pólo do Museu Marítimo de Ílhavo. Fez parte da frota portuguesa do Bacalhau e pretende ilustrar as artes do arrasto.
Este arrastão lateral (ou “clássico”) nasceu em 1948, na Holanda, por encomenda da Empresa de Pesca de Aveiro. Era um navio moderno, com 71,40 metros, com um porão com capacidade para mais de 1000 toneladas de peixe.
Nos anos oitenta surgiram restrições à pesca em águas exteriores que resultaram na redução da frota e no abate de uma boa parte dela. O Santo André não escapou à tendência. A 21 de Agosto de 1997 foi desmantelado. Sobrava a memória de um navio emblemático e havia que saber preservá-la.
Para tanto foram conciliadas ideias e esforços. O armador do navio, António do Lago Cerqueira, Lda (Pescas Tavares Mascarenhas, S.A.) e a Câmara Municipal de Ílhavo decidiram por mútuo acordo transformar o velho arrastão em navio-museu.
Convertido em museu, o Santo André iniciou um novo ciclo da sua vida: mostrar aos presentes e vindouros como foram as pescarias do arrasto do bacalhau; honrar a memória de todos os seus tripulantes durante meio século de actividade.

The ship-museum Santo André is an extension of the Maritime Museum of Ilhavo. The ship was part of the cod fleet and it stands as a testimony of the trawling techniques.
This side trawler was built in 1948, in Holland, ordered by the Fishing Company of Aveiro. It was a modern ship of 71,40 meters length with a hold capacity for over 1000 tons of of fish.
During the 80's there were restrictions concerning overseas fishing witch led to a severe reduction of the fleet. The ship was unmasted on the 21st of August, 1997.
There was a need to preserve the memory of this emblematic ship. Together, the ship-owner and the Municipality of Ilhavo decided to transform this old trawler into a museum.
As a museum, the ship Santo André began a new cycle of its life: to show the trawlers cod fishing to the present and future generations while honoring the memory of those who worked aboard during its half century activity.
