Geocache Description:

Can You Hear Me Now?

The above coordinates will take you to a VIEW of a cell phone tower disguised as something else - there is no cache located at the coordinates at the top of this page! Once you arrive at this location, you will need to gather information in order to calculate the waypoint for the final.

There are cell phone towers all around us, but we usually don't pay much attention to them. Some towers are purposely disguised in order to present a more pleasing view of the surrounding landscape. Some have no visible antennas, wires, or transmitters. Do you know a cell phone tower when you see one?

The above coordinates will take you to a parking lot. Once you arrive there, look directly east, and you will see the cell phone tower. Now look directly in front of you at the business located in your line of view in the parking lot. What is the name of this business?

To calculate the North coordinate to the final, you first need to write down the number value of each letter of the name of the business (A = 1, Z = 26, etc.).

Now add the first two letters and the last two letters of the second word in the business name. Call this number A. Take A and add it to the first letter of the first word in the business name. Call this number B. (The checksum of B = 11.) Subtract B from the North coordinate.

To calculate the West coordinate, add all of the letters of the second word in the business name. Call this number C. Next, multiply the second letter of the first word by itself. (If the second letter = 10, then multiply 10 X 10.) Call this number D. Then multiply C times D then add 2. This gives you E. (The checksum of E is 12.) Subtract E from the West coordinate.

The final coordinates will take you to a park less than 1.5 miles from WP1. There is plenty of parking at the final.

Please DO NOT post pictures of the cell phone tower. If you know of another disguised tower, let us know in your log!
