Fall Foliage Fun Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Bear Mom Scouter: It was a great day and a successful first event for me. I hope to make this an annual event but may move it to another local park. I'll make that decision next September. Thanks everyone for bringing things and sharing stories.

Geocache Description:

Fall Foliage Fun Event

Saturday from noon until 4 PM at Voorhees State Park Group Picnic Area B Pavillion, in High Bridge NJ . The park is located on County Route 513
This will be a pot-luck picnic. I will list some suggested food items and when you respond that you are coming, please indicate what you will bring, whether it is on the list or your own idea.
Dogs are allowed only in the ‘day use’ areas of a state park, but must remain on a leash at all times. They are not allowed in the camping areas. Also, you might want to bring towels for your dogs as there is a small pond nearby.
Please note that alcohol is not allowed in the state park.

Let me know in your ’will attend’ log if you are interested in a pre-event hike. The Columbia Trail is located nearby and has about 12 caches along it for the first 2 ½ miles – many of these are Natureboy44 and if you’re like me, I usually need help finding these. [I am so trying to learn to think outside the box - ammo box that is]. The trail is an old abandoned railroad bed so it is relatively level. The hike would be 5 miles total starting in High Bridge. I am going to group people and send them down the trail at 5 different start times {8AM, 8:30AM, 9AM, 9:30AM & 10AM} this way there’s not a huge mass of cachers heading down the trail. More info to follow if there is enough interest.
This trail is also good for bike riding, if you prefer not to hike. If you prefer biking, please let me know and you can complete up to 15 mile round trip.
And after the event if anyone is interested, there are two night caches locally, one to hike, one to drive.

For those who do the hike (or have previously found these caches) we will have a Geo-Bingo game during the picnic. There are also a number of caches in Voorhees Park that I will probably include in the Geo-Bingo game.

For those of you who may come a distance, Voorhees has 42 family camp sites, 3 cabins and 2 group camp sites. To reserve a family campsite (for up to 6 people), you will need to pay for two nights and it is $20.00 per night. Cabins have 2 sets of bunks and some floor space for 2 more and are $40.00 per night and again minimum to reserve is two nights. Group camp sites (minimum number of people is 7) can hold up to 50 people and cost $50.00 per night, minimum reservation is one night. Because of budget cuts and short staffing, no one is in the office at Voorhees, so you need to call Spruce Run 908-638-8572 to make a camping reservation. Remember no alcohol in the park.

If you are considering coming, please watch the listing as I will be updating info.
