Froggatt Edge (Waikato) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Freezer Mice: Sadly this cache has grown legs and has gone for a walk... errr climb.
I may look at replacing this cache at some stage, but for now it's going to be easier to archive it.
What this also means is that the bonus cache will now also be archived.
Thanks to all for the visits to this special spot.

Geocache Description:

The first traditional cache placed by 'The Freezer Mice' (who are particularly fond of puzzle caches instead) suitable for the everyday cacher (no extreme athletes required for this one). A relatively easy walk along what is a well used dirt path, and unless there has been very heavy recent rain there should be little need to get wet or muddy.

It has always been abit of a struggle for TFM to weigh up the desire to go out caching Vs. going out for a Rock Climb... so we decided to place a cache at our favourite climbing spot!

The 'Froggatt Edge' crag is located in the Wharepapa South region, and is all ignimbrite and (almost) all bolted. While some people complain about the apparent 'grid bolting' on the lower graded climbs, the crag is home to our personal favourite and what is described as an absolute classic climb... Terror Incognita (a grade 18, 25 metre, 7 bolt climb).
Look for it on the main wall face... yep, it's the climb that starts on the left side of a slab and works its way up to highest point on the face via an ever steepening arete.
At last count there were around 120 total climbs in the immediate area!

The crag is located on a working farm, and the local farmer graciously allows access across his property to the crag as long as some easy rules are adhered to:
NO DOGS allowed,
NO CAMPING allowed,
Leave NO RUBBISH,
Leave ALL gates EXACTLY as you found them

To get to the cache (a 1 litre clear systema inside a camo TFM bag) one needs to enter at the roadside gate from Whatauri Road (co-ords listed) and follow the gravelled track all the way to the car-park.
From there it is a very quick trip to the hide.

Now dont panic... just because the cache is located right in the heart of rock climbing territory, no-one will need to get roped in & climb anywhere to get the cache.
TFM did contemplate a placement ON a climb, but thought better of it :)

However if you are so inclined... bring the climbing gear, and the GPS, and the perfect day awaits!

Stealth may have to be employed to get this cache, as there can be horrendous numbers of climbers present all over the crag during the warmer days of summer.
