A nice quick cache'n'dash on a section of the old A38.
Please align the two black arrows to remove the lid of the container - it's a lot easier!
Old A38 Revisited - Notter Bridge
Having done several of the 'Old A30 Revisited' series of caches, I thought I would place some on bypassed sections of the other major route into Cornwall - the A38.
The A38 is formally known as the Exeter to Leeds trunk road, although it actually runs from Bodmin in Cornwall (where it joins the A30) to Mansfield in Nottinghamshire, a distance of 292 miles (470 kilometres).
This section of old A38 includes the old Notter Bridge over the River Lynher, which marks the boundary of the old Saltash Borough. This is the second bridge to be built (although in a slightly different place to the original one) and was opened in 1876. The third bridge which now carries the A38 was opened in 1961.
Nearby is The Notter Bridge Inn (incorporating the Riverside Restaurant) and two holiday parks - Notter Mill Country Park and Crylla Valley self-catering cottages.
The cache is NOT accessible from the A38. You will need to take the route of the old A38.
If you are continuing your journey westwards, you will need to rejoin the A38 on the Saltash side of the bridge.
