Geocache Description:

Point Wilson Lighthouse should be a fairly quick and easy find for visitor's to Fort Worden State Park. Do not believe the map on your Garmin GPS, the hide is not out in the water. IN SPITE OF THIS GREAT LOCATION, TRACKABLES SEEM TO GO MISSING. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THEM HERE.

The original Point Wilson Lighthouse was built in 1879, the location was named by Capt. George Vancouver in 1792. It marks the west entrance to Puget Sound and the turning point into Admiralty Inlet. The current lighthouse was opened in 1914, and the original lighthouse continued on as the keepers dwelling, minus the wooden tower of the old lighthouse. The light was automated in 1976. Winter storms in 2005 and 2006 pounded the Point and flooded the basement of the keepers dwelling and ripped the foghorns from its sounding wall ( now gone except for the foundation, near this hide). It is the tallest lighthouse on Puget Sound.

The nearest parking is about .11 mi at N 48 08.600 W 122 45.380. Recommended route to cache would be stay on N side of the lighthouse along the rip -rap wall.
