This is another roadside hide at the entrance of the Portage Lake Rd & Hwy 522. The cache is a cammo lock'n lock with a logbook, pencil and small trading items good for kids.
A bit of history of the Portage Lake property which is now empty.Courtesy of Bill Campbell's book "N-Eastern Geo. Bay & Its People";Bill Currie & family moved there in 1924 to homestead, farm & raise cattle. Their son,Percy, age 10, drowned in the lake in May 1927. There is a bronze plaque on a large rock at his gravesite.
It has also been used by the Min. of Natural Resources.
NOTE: Trust your co-ords as the Hwy survey appears to be off somewhat right here as the cache is on the south side of the Hwy.
