Horseshoe Lake Lookout has had a tumultuous history. The lookout
was established in 1921. In 1961, the original log platform was
burned in a forest fire. Remnants of the platform are still visible
in the rocks high above the cache location. In 1962, a 50 foot
replacement tower was moved from the Indian Grave Lookout site.
This tower stood until it too was burnt in a 1985 forest fire.
Today all that remains are the concrete foundations of the tower
and arranged rocks spelling out the name of the lookout.
The lookout is located just off the historic Lolo Motorway. See
the additional waypoints for directions.
A special thanks to dshifter who has graciously agreed to help
us maintain these caches!!!
