Geocache Description:

One Hundred NinetyFourth in the Famous People (FP) Series - Lance Armstrong
Lance Armstrong
(born Lance Edward Gunderson September 18, 1971) is an American professional road racing cyclist. He won the Tour de France a record-breaking seven consecutive years, from 1999 to 2005.

Armstrong has a VO2 max of 83.8 mL/kg/min, much higher than the average person (40-50), but not as high as that of some other elite cyclists, such as Miguel Indurain (88.0, although reports exist that Indurain tested at 92-94) or Greg LeMond (92.5).His heart is 30 percent larger than average; however, an enlarged heart is a common trait for many other athletes. He has a resting heart rate of 32-34 beats per minute (bpm) with a maximum heart rate of 201 bpm. Armstrong's most unusual attribute may be his low lactate levels. During intense training, the levels of most racers range from 12 µL/kg to as much as 20 µL/kg; Armstrong is below 6 µL/kg. This ability of lactate removal is most likely attributable to many years of hard training. Therefore, lactic acid buildup (or acidosis) does not occur as easily in his body. Acidosis, and lactate in general, does not cause fatigue but is a good, testable, marker for the cause of muscular fatigue — muscle cell depolarization. Some have theorized that his high pedaling cadence is designed to take advantage of this low lactate level. In contrast, other cyclists rely on their power to push a larger gear at a lower rate.

Armstrong was born as Lance Edward Gunderson to Linda Walling and Eddie Charles Gunderson. He was named after Lance Rentzel, a Dallas Cowboys wide receiver.

Armstrong began dating singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow some time in the autumn of 2003 and publicly revealed their relationship in January 2004. The couple announced their engagement in September 2005 and their split in February 2006.

Armstrong owns a house in Austin, Texas, as well as a ranch in the Texas Hill Country. Armstrong is a fan of The University of Texas Longhorns college football program and is often seen at events and on the sidelines supporting the team.

On September 9, 2008, Armstrong announced that he will return to pro cycling with the goal of winning the 2009 Tour de France. "After talking with my children, my family and my closest friends, I have decided to return to professional cycling in order to raise awareness of the global cancer burden,"

The cache is located in the Worcester-Cooper Cemetery. A small, family cemetery just a short walk from the road. To find the cemetery, take Avenue D east out of Point, Texas and continue on CR4510 to the dead end. Turn left (north) on CR1415 for 0.33 miles and turn right on a dirt/gravel road heading east. Drive 0.19 miles until you see an old, abandoned pickup about 75 yards off in the field to the right. It is suggested that you continue on down the road another 225 feet and then pull off under the trees to the right to park. From there, you can walk the fence line, turn right through the open gate toward the old truck, and bear left until you can see the old chain link fence surrounding the cemetery which is about 500 feet from the road. Enter through the gate and access the cache from inside the cemetery. The cache is a camoed waterproof matchstick container.

PLEASE NOTE:
Ken Armstrong owns the land that surrounds this small cemetery, although it is not his family members that are buried there. He has given us permission to visit it during normal daylight hours, but asks that we be sure and park off the road, and DO NOT attempt to drive back to the cemetery. Ken's house is about another 1/2 mile on down the road, but he knows when someone is in there. I got the feeling that he was glad someone was coming to visit this place, since no one had been around for quite some time. He even volunteered to keep it mowed if people were going to be visiting.

Should he come out to visit, be sure and mention to him that you "got the GPS coordinates from the internet", because I believe he understood that part of it. Not real sure he completely understood the whole geocaching experience, but he was okay with us going to the cemtery to visit. However, you must Park and Walk. It's not that far, it's flat and it's easy terrain. There is PI along the way, and some low pricklies, but it's really an easy walk that can be done in shorts and sandals.
