World Wide Flash Mob IV
A Flash Mob event is were a group of people turn up in a public
area and do something unexpected, and then quickly disperse leaving
muggles wondering what has just happened!
They are generally non geocaching specific, but Podcacher came
up with the idea to have simultaneous Geocaching Flash Mob Events
world wide. This is just one of many being held around the world at
the exact same time. Have a look at SquamLoon's bookmark list for
all of the events.
Where:
For this event we are going to meet at the above co-ordinates,
which are for a raised area next to the Royal Scottish Academy
& National Art Gallery at the bottom of the Mound.
Time:
Saturday 8th November at precisely 6pm GMT dispersing at exactly
6:15pm GMT. So don't be late as we will not be waiting and you must
interact with the event to log a find.
Instructions:
It is very important that these instructions are followed.
You must arrive just before 6pm, but do not congregate at the
co-ords and do not bunch together chatting. You must ignore other
geocachers and blend in with the general public. Keeping a distance
of 50-100 metres away from the co-ords would be good.
Doing this will mean that we will appear to come out of nowhere and
muggles won't know what is happening. This is part of the fun.
The main theme of this event shall be SILENCE! This means
nobody is allowed to speak throughout the event. I will communicate
with you by using written signs and will get your attention with a
peep of a whistle. Don't worry by the end of the event you will be
encouraged to speak, but not until I give you the signal.
Schedule:
6pm - I will sound a whistle & hopefully everyone
will appear from nowhere and close in on me, and you must not speak
a word. The event has started.
Cards will be handed out at this point, you must log your visit on
the card and hand it back to me. No Log, No Find! Please
bring along your own pen/pencil, there won't be time to wait for
others to finish using their pens.
This will also be your opportunity to swap TB's & Coins, but
I'm afraid no swapping stories.
6:05pm - Group photograph, should be fun trying to sort that
out in silence? This also needs to be done quickly as time is
tight.
6:08pm - Silent tasks begin.
6:12pm - Initiate final task, which will hopefully draw in
lots of muggles that will be wondering what is going on.
6:15pm - Event ends. I will walk away. Everyone do exactly
the same, but not all in the same direction. Hopefully leaving
behind a good few bemused muggles!!

Socialising afterwards:
Due to it being difficult to organise a pub on a Saturday
evening in the City centre that will allow children. I have decided
that if anyone wants to go for a wee get together afterwards, then
I shall be going to McD's on South St. Andrews Street to have a
coffee along with HayLin.
I have managed to reserve an area for about 20 people, this should
give us enough room to initially get in and find a seat.
If you wish to join me for a coffee or milkshake, then I shall be
upstairs by about 6:25pm.
It should be noted that after 6:15pm the event has ended, anyone
turning up afterwards, I am afraid that they have not attended the
event and will not be allowed to log a find.
Transport:
It's City centre, need I say any more?
Probably best to leave in plenty of time and get the bus in. Any
bus that goes to Prince's Street will do.
If you wish to get the train in, then it is less than 5 minutes
from Waverley Station.
Remember if you are late, we are not waiting.
Dogs:
Dogs are welcome at the event, as it is in a open public place.
This will restrict you from coming for a chat afterwards
though.
Note:
This is a fun event, you will be asked to do something that you
wouldn't normally do in a public area or anywhere else for that
matter, but that is the whole idea of the event. Please turn up
with an open mind and we shall all enjoy it immensely.
This event will be happening come rain or shine. So be prepared for
the weather please.
Help Required:
Do you wish to be exempt from the above requirements?
Do you still want to log the event as a find?
Do you own a digital camcorder and can bring it along on the
evening?
If you have answered yes to these questions, please get in
touch, I need someone to record the event for me.
I believe that I now have the above request covered.
