Murch Getaway Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

allan_b: It's time to lay this one to Rest. Murch Getaway has gotten away in the current floods. Roads are closed to this location. I really don't cache much these days. This one has lasted quite a while. Has seen floods and has return. Great spot for camping and fishing. Thanks to all that have been out here and found it.

Geocache Description:

Located in a nice quiet area beside the Goulburn river at Murchison. Myself and friends have been coming to this place for many years now during summer for camping. Its also a nice spot to fish or even go for a swim during the warmer months. The rail bridge near GZ was constructed from Murchison East to the gold mining town of Rushworth in 1890 and extended to Colbinabbin in 1914. Rushworth became a junction when a line was constructed to Girgarre in 1917. A diversion of the line was necessary when the Waranga Basin was constructed. The lines were all closed by 1987.Local groups are also beginning to get togther to plan to convert the rest of the former rail lines into a rail trail. The obvious first stage is the 19km section between the two historic towns of Murchison and Rushworth. Extending it to the railway at Murchison East would allow better access but making the large bridge across the Golburn River safe to cross will not be a minor task. The bridge is unsafe and i dont recommend anyone walking across it. Also you may observe on the bridge support next to the river 2 markings of flood levels , 1916 and 1939. You are looking for a black painted 1.2 ltr sistema container.
