Geocache Description:

The terrain is flat, with several streams and the river Tillingbourne.

This cache is hidden in the wooded remains of the Gunpowder Mills at Chilworth.

Gunpowder mills were first established on this site in 1623 by the East India Company. The last mill closed after the First World War.

The cache is located some distance behind a row of six steam-powered incorporating mills. These mills were built by the Anglo-German Chilworth Gunpowder Company in 1885. Here the saltpetre (potassium nitrate), charcoal and sulphur were mixed.
