This pleasant walk affords a variety of views of the Strathearn valley and surrounding hills as it gently ascends through woodland towards Knock Mary
A small settlement in Perth and Kinross, Balloch lies adjacent to a small loch of the same name, 3 miles (5 km) south west of Crieff.
The cache is a small lock and lock container with the usual log book and swaps. It is located at an elevated position looking over the Loch of Balloch towards Strathearn. It is a controversial theory that Napoleon's(1769-1821) grandfather may have come from Balloch, near Crieff. His name was William Bayne, he was forced to leave after the failure of the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745. He and his family were said to have been shipwrecked in Corsica and settled there. Bayne and his party became known as Boun-de-parte and after two generations the surname Bonaparte was used.
Was William Bayne of Strathearn really the grandfather of great Napoleon Bonaparte....? Probably not!
