This cache is located in Crocker Conservation Area. Though cache is actually closer to Caldwell Street, there is no where to park on this street, however its not too far of a hike from the parking area used for the other nearby caches. The hike from Overlook Reservoir shouldn't be bad at all, but getting back will be a bit of an uphill walk.
This cache is placed in memory of Bigelow "Big" Crocker Jr. who passed away on December 10, 2007. Big was born into the well-known Crocker family of Fitchburg's once booming paper business, Crocker Burbank Co. (no longer in operation). After fighting in World War II as a B-17 Bomber pilot, he returned to Fitchburg, married Jeanne LaCroix, and found a career in the paper business for more than thirty years. Mr. Crocker also served in many civic and community positions for local organizations such as the Fitchburg United Fund, Fitchburg Art Museum, the Crocker Field Restoration Committee and the Fitchburg Historical Society, to which he made a one million dollar donation to. He even helped to establish the nearby Applewild private school. On top of all this, he was a founding member of the North County Land Trust, the owners and operators the conservation area on which this cache is placed. In fact, the Crocker Conservation Area was formed by land once owned by the Crocker family themselves. Looking into the background of this area, I came across his story and just thought he deserved to be remembered.
The cache container is a clear plastic Lock n Lock container and should not be very hard to find. The cache might even remind you of another in the area. Please respect the posted rules of the park.
