Geocache Description:

The posted coordinates are bogus, but you will find the land of the Jolly Green Giant nearby. We hope you have as much fun with this cache as we did planning it. The cache container is loaded with swag including an unactivated geocoin for the FTF. In order to find this cache you will need to do a little research and a little math. There will be some bushwhacking, but for the most part, it’s really not too bad. However, I did not say it was going to be easy; there are a few obstacles that you will need to cross before heading out on your adventure in search of the…....

Jolly Green Giant
Jolly Green Giant

The Jolly Green Giant walks around singing “Ho-Ho-Ho” wearing a green-skinned tunic, wreath and boots made of leaves, and a BIG smile. Jolly Green Giant is a well-known popular culture. Not only, is he a symbol of the Green Giant food company, the mascot became so well-known that the name came to be used for other sorts of things that were large and green in color:

• The HH-3E rescue helicopters used during the Vietnam War by the U.S. Air Force were called Jolly Green Giants, while the larger HH-53 helicopters were nicknamed "Super Jolly."
• The Incredible Hulk, superhero, is described as "The Not-So-Jolly Green Giant."
• On the popular 1970s game show Match Game, the giant was the subject of several questions.
• After bringing the Statue of Liberty to life, in the film Ghostbusters 2, Bill Murray's character says "Keep kickin" Libby. If you make this work, we'll pop for a weekend in Vegas with the Jolly Green Giant!"
• On The Tonight Show, Johnny Carson is dressed as the "Little Green Sprout" and is standing between the lower legs of the Giant. He looks up and says, "Ho-ho-ho, Jolly Green Giant! Show us your Niblets!" whereupon he is showered with gigantic kernels of corn. He then looks up and mouths an obscenity at the Giant. The audience roars.
• In the film Full Metal Jacket, Crazy Earl says, "We are jolly green giants, walking the Earth with guns."
• In the film Demolition Man, while in a Pizza Hut, the "Valley of the Jolly Green Giant" song is heard.
• The Royal Guardsmen, The Kingsmen, and several other groups recorded songs titled The Jolly Green Giant.

You will need to research some history of the Jolly Green Giant before you begin this adventure:

1. What year did Jolly Green Giant first appear in advertisements? Take the year and subtract 1901. The answer is N 33 29.0 _ _.

2. What year was Jolly Green Giant first televised? Take this year and subtract the year from Question #1, then subtract 1. The answer is W 084 35.0 _ _.

Now, let the journey begin..... These coordinates will lead you to the land of the Jolly Green Giant where ”Little Green Sprout” likes to play.

Little Green Sprout

You will find a sign here. What is the art illustrated on the sign that equals five letters? Figure up the numerical equivalent of the letters (A=1, B=2, C=3, etc) and add them together to get a sum. Use this sum plus 5 = AA. Use the original sum again, minus 35 = BB.

N 33 29.0AA W 084 34.7BB

These coordinates will take you to Stage 2 where you will find the Jolly Green Giant’s cousin. You will find 3 large letters and 1 large number. Figure up the numerical equivalents for the letters and add them to the number to get C.
