Geocache Description:

Cow dipping is a procedure for cleanimg and sanitizing the exterior surface of a cow. This is particularly important for dairy cows. Inasmuch as it is difficult to actually lift a cow and dip it in a cleaning solution, tanks are available into which a cow can walk or be pushed.

This cache is located near the tank that was used for cow dipping by residents of the area prior to the establishment of False Cape State Park. It has not been used for its intended purpose for over fifty years and is gradually becoming filled with dirt and being covered by the ever shifting sands of the barrier island. It is a reminder of the way of life lived by the residents of the island in years past.

The cow dip and the cache are located close to a marked trail in False Cape State Park.

Access to False Cape State Park is obtained by hiking or bicycling through the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Parking is available at the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge visitor center (3.3 miles from the False Cape State Park entrance) or at Little Island City Park (a Virginia Beach City city park 5.1 miles from the False Cape State Park entrance) Fees and access hours for these parking areas vary with the seasons
