Journey To The Center Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

GuentherGal: I stopped by today, and sure enough the cache appears to be missing. I am archiving this, with hopes to place a puzzle based on the labyrinth here in the future. Thanks to all who have visited!

Geocache Description:

A popular sticker for geocaching states “Geocaching-It’s The Journey.” I believe most cachers would agree with that. This cache will take you on a journey of a different kind.

A labyrinth is a circular pattern on the ground that is designed to be walked meditatively. Walking the labyrinth represents a journey to your own center and back into the world with a more broadened understanding of who you are. Labyrinths are considered sacred, healing spaces in many parts of the world.

Many people falsely assume that a labyrinth is a maze; but that is not true. A maze is a puzzle that purposely tries to block your path at every turn. A labyrinth has one continuous path-with no tricks or dead ends.

Folks of all faith and traditions-or with no traditions at all- are invited to take the journey. This labyrinth is not a religious shrine. Your visit is meant to bring its own peace, joy, or sense of calm as you walk the path. Each journey will be unique.

The cache container is a medium size Lock & Lock located just a few feet beyond the labyrinth. Please make sure and cover it up when replacing.

This cache is placed with permission on the grounds of the two hundred year old historic Porchtown Zion United Methodist Church. The labyrinth and cache are available rain or shine, sunrise or sunset, day or night. If you have time, you may want to explore the interesting cemetery which predates the Civil War. Please be respectful of the area.

Much of the information on this page comes from a brochure you can pick up at the beginning of the labyrinth.
