This is a small cache placed on the University campus. It is big enough for small-ish Travel Bugs and Geocoins. The cache name refers to the Captain James Quack Travel Bug that started out from here – using the stars to navigate his way just like his namesake Captain Cook. Look out for the observatory located close by.
This cache is located in the grounds of the University of York. Founded in 1963 with 200 students, York has now grown to over 13,000 students and is expected to continue to increase with the development of Heslington East. The campus is centred around a large lake that has attracted a large population of wild and semi-wild waterfowl. These include greylag, Canada, barnacle and snow geese, coots, moorhens and large numbers of ducks, including mallards, tufted duck, and common pochards. There is also a growing population of black swans and a few great crested grebe. The southern end of the lake has now been established as a bird sanctuary.
With the lake, wildfowl and variety of trees, the campus is perfect for a stroll on a Sunday afternoon, or hunting for a cache.
