A wave of industrial expansion occurred in Adams after 1846, when the railroad was built between North Adams and Pittsfield connecting with the Boston-Albany line. Among the five new factories built in the town in a seven-year span, this cache sits on the site of the former L.L. Brown Paper Mill, the only paper mill in Adams at the time.
