This cache has been archived.

Alba15: This cache has been unavailable for a considerable period and as the owner has not responded to logs I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "As the cache owner, you are also responsible for physically checking your cache periodically, and especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to hunt for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable time - normally a few weeks - in which to arrange a visit to your cache. In the event that a cache is not being properly maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an extended period of time, we may archive or transfer the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Geocache Description:

Colliers’ Moss is situated to the south of St Helens and began life as a colliery spoil and power station.

This common was created on the spoil & waste from the Bold Colliery & Power Station. A diverse landscape with water features (including lagoons, streams, wetland areas & a fishery), focal points, artworks, seating areas & an amphitheatre all serve to make the whole site a beautiful & peaceful place to explore as well as important habitat for wildlife. The widespread network of paths ensures good access for walkers, cyclists & horseriders.

The remnants of mossland around the fringes of the site have been restored and areas of sphagnum moss are expanding. The site supports a range of notable species including water vole, common lizard and 16 species of dragonfly including Blacktailed Skimmer and Emperor.

As a result of additional funding a car park has been created using recycled materials. The gateway and internal gates have been improved – the design of which was inspired by the cooling towers of the power station previously located on the Moss. A footpath has been constructed as well as new signs and a toposcope, information on what visitors can view and where, have also been added to help people get the most out of the area. As a result of the improvements half of the site has been designated as a Local Nature Reserve.
