Geocache Description:

Accuracy at time of placement: 3.5m, avg of 165 readings

Broderick Reservoir is a lovely area for fishing and birdwatching. On the day I hid the cache I scared up a flock of prairie chickens! In winter time many ice fishing huts can be seen out on the reservoir. For those interested in fishing here it is a catch and release location that requires barbless hooks. Motorized boats are permitted on the reservoir.

The reservoir was created in 1967 as part of the South Saskatchewan East Water Supply (SSEWS). The SSEWS system provides water for recreation, wildlife, industry, urban and rural domestic water and irrigation. There are 85 miles (137 km) of canal, originating at Broderick Reservoir and ending at Dellwood Reservoir near Lanigan. If you examine the map on this web page (visit link) the canal system is outlined in pink, and the reservoir is the body of water east of Outlook.

The canal closest the cache brings water from Lake Diefenbaker to the reservoir, then two other canals drain water to the rest of the water supply system. Nearby can also be found a small Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation park.
