The founding gravel-voiced pitchman has passed on, but Earl
Scheib still paints cars. Automobile paint-and-body repair chain
Earl Scheib owns and operates about 100 stores in more than 20
states. About half of the company's facilities are in California.
Known for low-priced paint jobs, Earl Scheib stores also offer
cosmetic body work, as well as glass replacement and
pin-striping.
As a result of Earl Scheib's widespread and memorable commercials,
both he and his famous catch phrase have been referenced often in
popular culture. Earl Scheib appeared in local television
commercials up through the 1990s. Scheib would tell the camera
"Riiight, "I'll paint any car, any color for twenty-nine
ninety-five! Riiiiiiight!" Scheib's tagline "riiiiiiight" became a
colloquial reference. The company was mentioned in a scene of The
Nutty Professor, where Buddy Love told the following joke in a
club: "Your mama's so fat, she gets her toenails painted at Earl
Scheib!" and Steve Martin's 1987 movie Roxanne "hi, I'm Earl
Scheib, and I can paint that nose for $39.95!"
Cache is a large, camo-painted poly jar. Standard cautions apply:
ticks, snakes, poison-oak, coyotes, and the like are all potential
hazards. It's a fair way up the road; you'll want plenty of water
on a hot day.
