This cache is the fifth cache to be placed as part of the Ghost Train series of caches along the route of the old Milford to Manchester Railroad. We've long been intrigued by the Milford and Manchester Railroad that was only in use for a few short years ever since we stumbled over an old railroad bed and wanted to know more about it. A list of the other caches in this series can be found at the bookmark: Ghost Train Series
This cache is placed near where the the old railroad bed cut underneath Camp Road in Amherst, NH. When heading towards Milford, the train would pass the flag stop at Swett's or Stowell's Mill (Stowell Road in Bedford and Parkhurst Road in Merrimack) and head northwest into Amherst. This cut was the northern most part of the railroad in Amherst before it turned and headed southwest to Milford just short of Route 101 today.
After having to replace the container four times, I've chosen a more traditional container and moved the cache a few hundred feet to the north. If the leaves are off the trees, from the west side of the road you can look to the southeast and see the stonework for the railroad bridge that used to cross the creek and if you walk south along the road a couple of hundred feet you can see where the railroad bed crossed underneath the road.
Please put the cache back carefully where you find it.
Bring your own pen/pencil.
