Geocache Description:

Is it mid-October already? Can that calendar be right??! Yes it is, which means that Thanksgiving will be here before you know it. So get out your pilgrim hat and your best silverware and let's celebrate the 2008 edition of turkey day!

DATE: Saturday, November 22, 2008
TIME: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
LOCATION: Corner Bakery Cafe in the Irvine Marketplace; 13786 Jamboree Road, Irvine, CA 92602

Expect the usual fun stuff, with bug/coin trading, a game or two, and lots of caching stories. If you want, include one (1) recipe, either full-text or link, in your response. If we get enough, we'll photocopy the entire collection and put 'em together in book form. Here's one from the food section of the Los Angeles Times to get things going.

The basic recipe on the back of the cranberry bag is easy, but with just a little extra effort, you can create a really special sauce that exudes both tartness and sweetness. This recipe, from the family of Times Food Editor Russ Parsons, has become a Thanksgiving favorite, and it's simple. Just be sure to leave enough time before serving for the flavors to settle--about three days is ideal, though we've made it the day before and it turned out well. Also, be careful not to overcook the cranberries; they should pop when you bite.

2 1/2 cups relish. 1/4-cup serving: 132 calories; 1 mg sodium; 0 cholesterol; 0 fat; 35 grams carbohydrates; 0 protein; 0.41 gram fiber.

As for specific advice as to how to cook a turkey, it's hard to beat the Butterball hotline; they answer about 100,000 calls a year. And yes, they do get some strange ones. In 1993, a woman in Kentucky wanted to know how to get her Chihuahua out of the turkey. After some discussion, she confessed that the little pooch had somehow crawled into the uncooked bird and couldn't get back out. The answer? The calller was instructed to cut the opening a little bigger so that the dog could escape. Hopefully, things are a little less crazy in your kitchen. We hope you'll join us at Butterball Basics: Brining and Basting!
